Course Description

 

With the large amount of available data, corpus linguistics is becoming an integral part of research in both linguistics and language engineering. In this course we will learn the basic methodology of corpus linguistics and the use of corpora for linguistic analysis. The methodology fundamentals will include corpus design, annotation, query, and quantitative analysis. First, we will focus on existing corpora and learn how to search them using available tools. We will further dive into basic text-mining and visualization techniques with R programming language. Finally, we will participate in the creation of an annotated corpus that will be showcased  with ANNIS platform.
